8:45 am-10:00 am AIM: Physician Assistants - Advocating for Quality Care Today and Tomorrow

Physician assistants are expected to be the solution to the growing demand for healthcare and filling gaps from physician shortages. What are the challenges for licensure, scope of practice and supervision for these mid-level health care providers?  This panel consisting of physician assistants, educators and a national advocacy agency will take us behind the scenes to learn more about how PAs are being trained, licensed and regulated.

10:15 am-Noon: Are We Meeting Expectations?

What does the public expect from state medical boards? In 2016, news and public interest organizations scrutinized how medical boards disciplined physicians and provided information to the public. What do those public critiques say about the public’s expectations? How do we know what the public expects? This panel explores that subject from the perspectives of the media, the board executive and the public board member.
